UV Filters improve the clarity of your photographs and reduce unwanted haze by blocking Ultra Violet rays. UV  filters are useful when you are taking pictures in the mountains or at sea or any other place where there is a lot of UV light. It will filter out the blue haze that normally blurres the background of your picture. It is also very useful when taking pictures in the snow, since snow is a very good UV reflector.

Here’s 2 Articles you should read to get more into about UV filters

If you are looking for a UV filter for your Canon Powershot SX20 IS Camera with 58mm filter Adaptor then I can recommend you to buy a Hoya 58mm UV filter. If you don’t have a 58mm Filter Adapter then you better order a filter adapter along with your UV filter. You can buy a Hoya 58mm HMC Multicoated UV Filter for around $25 and Also there is a lower class one called HOYA 58mm UV Haze Protection Filter for bit less price which is around $12. What I prefer is Hoya 58mm Super HMC PRO1 UV filter.
Make sure you are buying a 58mm Filter not any other size. Also Canon SX20 IS camera needs a 58 Filter adapter to fix these. Better Keep your UV filter fix to len so your len would be always safe. All These UV Filters work fine with Canon Powershop SX10 IS camera and Canon Powershop SX1 IS camera too.

Lens protector filter for Canon Powershot SX20 IS Camera.

The Best thing about Canon Powershop SX20 IS camera is its Super Zoom telephoto lens. Unless you want to be a career photographer do some serious photography, Canon SX20 IS camera‘s 560mm Zoom same power of 300mm external telephoto lens (at least). It saves you buying expensive lenses. he glass in that lens is multi-coated to prevent unwanted reflections from ruining your photos. You can see the coating as a color, maybe green or blue, when you look at the front element of your lens in certain light. To protect the front glass element of your lens, You need a filter probably a UV filter. Now this is Where Price and Quality play a big role. If you are serious about photos you take its not wise to buy the cheapest UV filter you can find. Because it would be like adding piece of glass to your lens which will actually degrade your photos with unwanted reflections.Your Lens will be safe but the quality of photos won’t be good. What’s the point of having this great camera if your photos are not in quality which you want ? That’s why you need to buy the filter of good brand like Hoya.
Hoya has several price levels of multi-coated filters. Hoya  Pro 1 and  S-HMC (Super multi-coated) both seem to be exactly what any serious photographer wants on the front of the lens. The best thing is now they have a UV filter which combine both of these technologies. That’s Hoya Super HMC Pro1 Haze UV filter. This outstanding filter offer revolutionary performance in light transmission and color balance. 12 layers of Super Multicoating are applied to the surface of the Skylight 1B and UV models, which produce an average transmission of 99.7%. Its better Discus about these filters in a different post so I don’t go into details but If you are a Canon Powershot SX10 IS camera owner then I can recommend you to buy a HOYA 58mm Super HMC PRO-1 UV filter as your lens protector. It worth the every penny you spend for it. Remember you need to buy a 58 UV filter which you fit for 58 Filter adapter. If you don’t have a 58 Filter Adapter for your Canon SX20 IS camera then you need to buy one too.
